Mackay Cutters invites applications for the Wellbeing & Community Manager to lead player wellbeing, education and community programs. Reporting to the CEO, the role sits at the intersection of sport, education and social impact, working with Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership squads to support wellbeing and development.

You will engage schools, build trusted relationships, connect players with employment and training, and deliver funded community programs across the Mackay region.

The QCCS Mackay Cutters are seeking an outstanding communicator and relationship builder to join our team as Wellbeing & Community Manager.

This is a unique role combining two important areas of our organisation - supporting the wellbeing and personal development of our players and using the influence of the Mackay Cutters to make a positive difference throughout our community.

We're looking for someone who can walk into a classroom and genuinely engage a group of school-aged students, then later sit down with a senior rugby league player and have a trusted one-on-one conversation about their wellbeing, employment, education or life outside football.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Wellbeing & Community Manager will lead the Club's player wellbeing, education and community programs.

The role has two key areas of responsibility.

You'll work closely with players across the Club, with particular focus on our Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership squads.

You'll be responsible for:

• Building genuine and trusted relationships with players.
• Maintaining regular and proactive wellbeing engagement.
• Supporting players through personal, employment, education and life challenges.
• Helping players develop opportunities and interests outside rugby league.
• Connecting players with employment, education and training opportunities.
• Recognising when specialist professional support is required and helping players access appropriate services.
• Working collaboratively with coaches and football staff while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.

This is not a clinical counselling position. It's about relationships, communication, early support and connecting people with the right assistance when they need it.

Community Engagement

You'll also be one of the faces of the Mackay Cutters throughout our region.

You'll lead and actively deliver programs including Cutters Care, school engagement activities and other community initiatives throughout the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac regions.

You'll be responsible for:

• Delivering engaging and interactive programs to primary and secondary school students.
• Building strong relationships with schools and community organisations.
• Coordinating and supporting players involved in community activities.
• Delivering funded community programs and partnership commitments.
• Working with community partners and stakeholders.
• Monitoring program outcomes and completing required reporting.
• Helping us continually improve and expand the impact of our community programs.

Regular regional travel and some work outside normal business hours will form part of the role.

About You

We're less interested in finding someone from one particular professional background and more interested in finding the right person.

You may come from education, youth development, community services, sport development, player welfare, wellbeing or a similar field.

What matters is that you can connect with people.

You'll ideally bring:

• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
• Confidence presenting and facilitating programs for school-aged young people.
• Demonstrated experience supporting the wellbeing, personal development or pastoral needs of young adults.
• The ability to build genuine, trusted relationships.
• Empathy, emotional intelligence and sound judgement.
• An understanding of professional boundaries and when specialist support is required.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills.
• Confidence working independently and taking ownership of outcomes.
• The ability to work collaboratively within a sporting environment.
• Strong written communication and reporting skills.

Relevant qualifications in education, youth development, community services, sport development, wellbeing or a related field will be highly regarded.

Experience within rugby league or professional/semi-professional sport would be advantageous but is not essential.

Applicants will require a current driver's licence and must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
