Job summary

G.K. Staff Pty Ltd, operating as Gorski Engineering, seeks a Welder (First Class) to join its Somerton manufacturing team.

The role involves interpreting drawings, fabricating and assembling tipper bodies, and maintaining quality workmanship on site. Candidates must hold AQF Certificate III or IV in welding, have at least 12 months of relevant experience, and demonstrate safe operation of welding equipment.

Qualifications

• AQF Certificate III or IV in welding or closely related metal trades.
• Minimum 12 months' experience as Welder (First Class).
• Strong capabilities in welding, metal fabrication, cutting, shaping, fitting and assembly in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications.
• Produce high-quality welds with proper penetration, alignment and finish while meeting tolerances.
• Operate welding tools, hand tools and fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.
• Demonstrate knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine welding, fabrication and assembly requirements.
• Select, inspect, clean and prepare steel and other metal stock for fabrication work.
• Measure, mark and cut metal sections accurately using appropriate hand and powered cutting equipment.
• Shape and bend metal components using workshop machinery, heating methods and fabrication techniques.
• Align and position components precisely using measuring instruments, clamps, jigs and hand tools.
• Join metal sections using welding techniques to form strong, accurate assemblies.
• Fabricate and repair structural components for tipper bodies and related transport equipment.
• Inspect completed welds for bead width, penetration, alignment, strength and workmanship quality.
• Grind, file and smooth welded joints to achieve required finishes and safe surfaces.
• Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely per procedures and instructions.
• Identify defects or dimensional issues and perform corrective welding or repairs.
• Maintain welding tools, equipment and work areas clean, safe and serviceable.
• Collaborate with engineers, fabricators and workshop staff to meet production schedules.

Summary

Our client G.K. Staff Pty Ltd, operating as Gorski Engineering, is seeking to add a Welder (First Class) to its established Somerton manufacturing team. With a proud Australian family-owned heritage dating from 1975, the business designs and manufactures premium tipper bodies, combining skilled fabrication, engineering expertise, quality materials, VASS certification and PBS compliance within its comprehensive on-site operation.

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine welding, fabrication and assembly requirements.
• Select, inspect, clean and prepare steel and other metal stock for fabrication work.
• Measure, mark and cut metal sections accurately using appropriate hand and powered cutting equipment.
• Shape and bend metal components using workshop machinery, heating methods and suitable fabrication techniques.
• Align and position components precisely using measuring instruments, clamps, jigs and hand tools.
• Join metal sections using appropriate welding techniques to achieve strong, accurate and durable assemblies.
• Fabricate and repair structural components used in custom-built tipper bodies and related transport equipment.
• Inspect completed welds for bead width, penetration, alignment, strength and overall workmanship quality.
• Grind, file and smooth welded joints to achieve required finishes and safe finished surfaces.
• Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely in accordance with workshop procedures and manufacturer instructions.
• Identify fabrication defects or dimensional issues and undertake necessary corrective welding or repair work.
• Maintain welding tools, equipment and work areas in clean, safe and serviceable condition.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, fabricators and workshop personnel to meet production schedules and specifications.
• Follow workplace health and safety requirements while maintaining consistent quality throughout all fabrication activities.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV in welding, fabrication or a closely related metal trades discipline.
• Possess a minimum of 12 months' recent, directly relevant experience as a Welder (First Class).
• Demonstrate strong practical capability in welding, metal fabrication, cutting, shaping, fitting and assembly within a manufacturing environment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications accurately to determine fabrication and welding requirements.
• Produce consistently high-quality welds with appropriate penetration, alignment and finish while meeting specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Use welding equipment, hand tools, measuring instruments and fabrication machinery safely, accurately and efficiently in workshop operations.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, including safe handling of materials and welding equipment.
• Work effectively within a team, follow production priorities and maintain dependable workmanship across custom fabrication projects.
