Job summary

Saab Australia is seeking a Weapons Engineer to join the DDG Combat System Test and Commissioning group. You will install, test, commission, maintain and troubleshoot Above Water Weapons systems within the Ship Combat Systems environment, and lead test activities across integration tests.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience with complex, software-intensive systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical/electrical/computer science) or related field.
  • 5+ years engineering experience; defence domain preferred.
  • Experience integrating CS weapon systems into naval platforms.
  • Proficient in systems engineering methods and toolchains.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot AWW systems.
  • Develop and manage system requirements analysis for test systems.
  • Maintain CM records; contribute to VCRM and RTM.
  • Use test tools for integration and verification; analyze results.
  • Lead test activities and document outcomes.
  • Prepare Set to Work, Installation and Checkout procedures.

Job description

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT). The CSI-IPT forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1).

The role

The Weapons Engineer will be part of the DDG Combat System (CS) Test and Commissioning group. The Weapons Engineer will work in a highly experienced team and will be responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Above Water Weapons (AWW) systems within the Ship Combat Systems environment.

Further, the successful candidate will:

Participate in the development and management of system requirements analysis in respect of test systems (i.e. test equipment, harnesses, & instrumentation systems).

Ensure all test & integration records are maintained in Configuration Management (CM), including contributing to Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).

Utilise test tools effectively to undertake test, integration and verification including diagnosing problems and analysing results, capturing in the project Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).

Assess equipment material and tooling issues, including part shortages, and develop solutions

Lead test activities and record results from integration test activities.

Prepare Set to Work and Installation and Checkout procedures using design and qualification criteria defined by the system designer.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9-day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field etc.) - preferably within the defence industry.

5+ years engineering experience, including exposure to complex, software‑intensive and/or mission‑critical systems (defence domain desirable).

Previous exposure in the Integration, Installation, Test and Evaluation of CS Weapon Systems into Naval Platforms or equivalent complex Military Systems having challenging constraints.

Practitioner’s level of experience in the fields of Systems Engineering (i.e. Requirements Management,

System Architecture, Systems Integration, and/or Verification and Validation).

Proficiency in using systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g. DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to clearly convey technical information in both written and verbal forms.
