Job summary

Lithgow City Council is seeking an Operations Manager - Water and Wastewater to lead a multi-disciplinary team in Lithgow, NSW. You will oversee water treatment, sewerage operations and asset management within budgetary and regulatory frameworks.

The role emphasizes planning, risk management and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on continuous improvement and safety compliance across Water and Wastewater assets.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications at the degree level in Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in managing water and sewer assets and ability to meet statutory requirements.
• Experience in managing and leading a team of staff to achieve desired outcomes.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the WHS Act and risk management procedures.
• Project management abilities including cost estimating and scheduling.
• Demonstrated understanding of asset management and budget control.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example to deliver innovative, cost effective and safe engineering solutions for water and wastewater treatment and reticulation.
• Contribute to planning and management of Water and Wastewater Assets.
• Manage finances and assets; contribute to Operational Budget and long-term planning.
• Manage risk to Council while ensuring compliant water and wastewater operations.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, guidelines and standards for an urban water utility.
• Engage with regulatory reporting, licensing and key stakeholders.
• Coach and mentor teams to foster continuous improvement and succession planning.
• Participate in cross-organisational strategic initiatives.
