Job summary

Byron Shire Council in Byron Bay is seeking a Capital Works Coordinator - Utilities to lead the planning and delivery of its water and sewer capital works program. You will oversee projects from planning and procurement through to construction, combining engineering expertise with program and contract management.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, stakeholder engagement and WHS knowledge, with a focus on delivering high-quality infrastructure for the community.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience delivering water and sewer infrastructure from planning to construction.
• Strong budgeting, contracts and reporting capabilities.
• Ability to lead a team while managing competing priorities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of Council's water and sewer capital works program.
• Manage multiple infrastructure projects, monitoring scope, budgets, schedules, risks and delivery performance.
• Lead and support the Capital Works team, providing technical direction and coordinating priorities across the program.
• Prepare and manage tenders, quotations, contracts and procurement documentation for works, services and materials.
• Oversee consultants and contracts, including contract administration, site inspections and performance monitoring.
• Provide technical engineering advice to support the design and construction of water and sewer infrastructure.
• Develop project estimates, budgets and forecasts, and report on financial and program performance.
• Proactively identify project risks, issues and changes, developing practical solutions to keep delivery on track.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders and undertake community consultation to support successful project delivery.
• Ensure projects meet WHS, environmental, legislative, quality and Council requirements.
