Job summary

Redland City Council is seeking a Water Industry Worker 1 (Labourer) to support the Hydrant Maintenance Program. This field-based role covers planned maintenance, inspections and recording work in the Hydrant network across Redland City.

You will undertake outdoor labouring tasks, operate tools and vehicles safely, and use tablets to document maintenance. A positive, safety-focused team player is essential for success in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in construction, labouring, or outdoor work; water industry exp is desirable but not essential.
• Confidence using tools, small plant, or equipment; willing to learn and develop new skills.
• Comfort with technology- tablets, mobile devices, field-based apps.
• Strong communication to work in a team and provide professional customer service.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental practices.
• Reliable, team-focused with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Experience around traffic, construction sites, or civil infrastructure will be highly regarded.

Want to be part of a team that helps keep Redland City safe and connected? Join the City Water team at Redland City Council and play a key role in delivering our Hydrant Maintenance Program.

In this hands-on field-based role, you'll work as part of a dedicated team undertaking planned maintenance and inspection works across Council's water network. You'll be responsible for maintaining essential firefighting infrastructure, working safely around roads, plant and machinery, and using mobile technology to record and complete works in the field.

We havetwo contract opportunities for up to 12 months, ideal for anyone looking to apply their labouring skills in a specialised environment, gain valuable water industry experience, and work alongside a supportive team delivering essential infrastructure maintenance across Redland City.

Your responsibilities will include:

Undertaking inspection, testing, and maintenance activities as part of Council's Hydrant Maintenance Program

Performing manual labour tasks in an outdoor environment and working safely around roads, traffic, plant, and machinery

Operating tools, equipment, and Council vehicles in accordance with safety requirements

Using tablets and mobile devices to record work completed and update maintenance information

• Work collaboratively with team members, contractors, customers, and the community to deliver programmed works safely, efficiently, and in compliance with workplace health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Skills and experience:

• Hands-on experience in construction, labouring, or a similar outdoor work environment (water industry experience is highly desirable but not essential).
• Confidence using tools, small plant, or equipment, along with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
• Confidence using technology, including tablets, mobile phones, and field-based applications.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide professional customer service.
• A strong commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental practices.
• A reliable, team-focused approach with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Experience working around traffic, construction sites, or civil infrastructure will be highly regarded.
