Job summary

Campbelltown City Council in Campbelltown is seeking a permanent Resource Recovery and Waste Planning Officer to provide expert advice on waste management for development applications and planning proposals. The role also involves reviewing planning controls and representing the Council in litigation when needed.

The successful candidate will possess relevant environmental degrees, strong policy, analytical and communication skills, and a commitment to collaborative, evidence-based planning.

Qualifications

• Degree qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Waste Management, or extensive demonstrated experience in resource recovery and waste management or assessment of planning and development applications.
• Extensive knowledge of Australian waste and resource recovery industry, circular economy principles, policies, strategies and legislation.
• Extensive knowledge of planning framework including Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, LEPs, DCPs and planning approvals.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice on resource recovery and waste management for development applications and planning proposals.
• Review Council’s Development Control Plan and represent Council in litigation matters as required.
• Develop, review and implement policies, standards, guidelines and strategic initiatives to improve service delivery and compliance.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to influence waste planning outcomes and communicate findings to senior management.
