Job summary

Fairfield City Council seeks a Waste Enforcement Officer to lead enforcement and education efforts protecting Fairfield City's environment.

You will investigate illegal dumping and littering, deter offenders, and promote sound waste practices in line with the City Plan for a Cleaner and Greener City. The role is permanent full-time (38 hours/week) with a salary from 77,652 to 90,957 AUD plus superannuation.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Local Government Investigations.
• Experience, knowledge and understanding of investigation processes and procedures.
• Proficiency in covert and overt investigation strategies and surveillance.
• Understanding enforcement powers under relevant legislation.
• Observe details, record information legally, write reports, interview witnesses and collect evidence.
• Prepare briefs of evidence and represent Council in court.
• Local Government experience is advantageous.
• White Card, SEINS training and First Aid/Senior Certificate are advantageous.
• Community development or engagement skills to change behaviour.
• Experience in dispute negotiation and conflict resolution.

Job description

Are you a self-motivated individual passionate about community engagement? We are seeking a Waste Enforcement Officer to spearhead our efforts in protecting Fairfield City’s environment through enforcement and education initiatives.

As a Waste Enforcement Officer, you will play a pivotal role in implementing key programs aimed at tackling illegal dumping, littering, and promoting effective waste management practices in alignment with our City Plan for a Cleaner and Greener City. You'll be at the forefront of investigating, detecting, and deterring individuals from engaging in activities that harm our environment.

ABOUT YOU:

To be successful in this role, you will need

• Certificate IV in Local Government Investigations.
• Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and understanding of investigation processes and procedures.
• Proficiency in different investigation strategies, including covert and overt operations and surveillance.
• Thorough understanding of enforcement powers outlined in relevant legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to observe details, record information in a legal manner, write reports, interview witness and collect evidence.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare brief of evidence and represent Council in court.

The following qualifications and experience are considered advantageous for this role:

• Local Government experience.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Self-Enforcement and Infringement Notice Scheme (SEINS) trained.
• First Aid/Senior Certificate.

Community development or engagement skills to change behaviour.

• Experience in dispute negotiation and conflict resolution.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENTCONDITIONS:

• Permanent full-time position, working 38 hours per week
• This position is a Grade 4, with a salary range starting from $77,652 p.a. up to $83,617 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with further performance-based progression available up to $90,957 p.a., plus superannuation
• A dual cabin utility leaseback vehicle is available
• A mobile telephone is provided
• Uniform is provided
