Job summary

Sunshine Coast Council is seeking a Waste Contract & Project Officer to deliver waste diversion and disposal services through managing critical contracts and client-side delivery of capital projects. You will work with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders to optimise performance and support the council's waste network.

• You bring qualifications or equivalent experience in project management, engineering, construction, contract administration, waste management or a related discipline.
• You have demonstrated experience in contract administration and contractor management, with the ability to oversee performance, compliance, risk and commercial outcomes within a complex operational environment.
• You are knowledgeable in waste diversion, resource recovery and disposal practices, with the ability to interpret legislation, policies and industry requirements.
• You are a strong communicator and problem solver who enjoys working with stakeholders, coordinating projects, analysing information and delivering practical solutions in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the administration of critical waste service contracts, managing contractor performance, commercial outcomes, risk, compliance and continuous improvement to ensure reliable service delivery to the community.
• Act as Council's client representative for waste infrastructure projects, coordinating project planning, procurement, contractor management, construction delivery, stakeholder engagement and project close-out.
• Support the delivery of landfill, resource recovery and other waste infrastructure projects that are critical to meeting the region's future waste management requirements.
• Coordinate consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of capital works projects across Council's waste management network.
• Monitor waste facilities and operations to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, approvals and Council policies.
• Provide technical advice, undertake investigations and contribute to service improvements across waste operations.

About the Role

The Waste Operations Branch delivers safe, reliable and compliant waste collection, diversion and disposal services that support the region's growing communities and environmental goals. Focused on operational excellence, sustainability and continuous improvement, the team plays a vital role in strengthening waste management services and building a resilient future for the Sunshine Coast.

As the Waste Contract & Project Officer, you will play a key role in delivering Sunshine Coast Council's waste diversion and disposal services through the management of critical operational contracts and the client-side delivery of capital infrastructure projects. Working closely with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, you will help deliver major waste infrastructure, optimise contractor performance and support the ongoing development of Council's waste management network.
