Job summary

Handpicked Wines is seeking a Full-time Vineyard Operator for our Yarra Valley site. Based at Highbow Hill Vineyard, you will work with a team to maintain vines using organic methods and operate a range of vineyard machinery.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate vineyard machinery including tractor, forklift, sprayers and harvest tools.
• Perform trellis work, irrigation repairs, pruning and general vineyard tasks.
• Maintain organic and sustainable practices in line with certification requirements.
• Collaborate with team and communicate effectively to meet deadlines.
• Adhere to safety protocols and complete tasks efficiently.

Job description

Handpicked Wines is an award-winning fine wine producer with a growing number of sustainably and organically managed vineyards in the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Tasmania, and the Barossa Valley. An opportunity has arisen for a Full-time Vineyard Operator to join our Yarra Valley Vineyard team. The role is based at Highbow Hill Vineyard which has 30 hectares of established vines planted on rolling hills just north of Yarra Glen village in the Yarra Valley.

The vineyard has a focus on producing premium organically grown fruit. Varietals planted on VSP trellis are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz. Other varietals planted on the vineyard include Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Nebbiolo, to name just a few.

We have a team of passionate, collaborative, hard working, positive and focused people and require a like-minded team member to join the vineyard crew.

Role responsibilities and requirements include:

• Commitment to maintaining the vineyard using organic and sustainable practices aligning with our Organic & Sustainability Certification requirements
• Operation of all vineyard machinery including tractor, forklift, mechanical pruners, sprayers and harvest operations with proven experience
• Trellis work, irrigation repairs, pruning and general duties across all aspects of the growth and harvest cycle
• Good communication skills and a willingness to learn
• Ability to work flexible and at times extended hours over peak work periods, such as spray season and harvest
• Team player with ability to also work independently, use initiative and follow directions
• Commitment to safe work practices and working knowledge of health & safety requirements
• Valid C Class Driver’s License
• Valid HR / HC License, Forklift License, Chemcert accreditation is desirable
• First aid training certificate is desirable
• Australian Citizen/Resident or a valid visa with permission to work
