Job summary

Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking a Scientist (Mapping) to lead vegetation mapping projects across New South Wales. You will combine field data, high-resolution imagery and spatial analysis to classify native vegetation communities and support biodiversity conservation and environmental planning.

The role offers hybrid working arrangements, a Queanbeyan location upon negotiation, and a salary range of AUD 112,375 to AUD 124,158 per year plus

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science or a related discipline.
• Experience using GIS and spatial data for vegetation mapping.
• Knowledge of Australian native vegetation is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist in mapping native vegetation communities using field data, aerial imagery and spatial analysis.
• Undertake field vegetation assessments and interpret environmental datasets.
• Produce vegetation maps, technical reports and spatial products to support planning and conservation outcomes.
• Collaborate with ecologists and mapping specialists to maintain scientific rigour and data quality.
