Job summary

Evolution Mining's Vacation Student – Mining Engineer program offers 12 weeks of paid, hands-on experience with one of Australia’s leading gold producers. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on mine planning and operations, applying your university learnings to real projects.

Locations include Northparkes (NSW), Cowal (NSW) and Ernest Henry (QLD), with subsidised accommodation, travel flights, and site transport to support your development in production reporting, design and optimisation.

Qualifications

• Studying Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrating an interest in mining operations and mine planning.
• A strong problem-solver with analytical thinking skills.
• A confident communicator and team player.
• Willing to live and work in a regional mining environment.
• Hold a valid manual driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist with mine planning and production activities.
• Support drill and blast design, implementation and analysis.
• Contribute to production reporting and equipment performance reviews.
• Assist with operational improvement and optimisation projects.
• Analyse mining data to identify trends and opportunities.
• Support engineering studies and technical investigations.
• Work closely with mining, geology and processing teams to deliver operational outcomes.

About the role

In the Vacation Student – Mining Engineer role, you'll gain hands‑on experience supporting mine planning and operational activities across our mining operations. Working alongside experienced engineers, you'll contribute to projects that help optimise production, improve efficiency and support safe mining practices.

Some of your work may include:

• Assist with mine planning and production activities
• Support drill and blast design, implementation and analysis
• Contribute to production reporting and equipment performance reviews
• Assist with operational improvement and optimisation projects
• Analyse mining data to identify trends and opportunities
• Support engineering studies and technical investigations
• Work closely with mining, geology and processing teams to deliver operational outcomes

Northparkes Operations, NSW

Located 27 kilometres north-west of Parkes in Central West New South Wales, Northparkes is a world-class copper and gold operation and one of Australia's most automated underground mines.

Cowal Gold Operations, NSW

Located near West Wyalong in Central New South Wales, Cowal is one of Australia's largest open pit gold mines, offering students exposure to a large-scale mining operation within a supportive regional community.

Ernest Henry Operations, QLD

Located near Cloncurry in north-west Queensland, Ernest Henry is a world-class copper and gold operation renowned for its underground mining and mineral processing activities.
