Job summary

Talent International is seeking experienced UX/UI Designers for multiple APS6 and EL1 level roles in a Federal Government environment. Positions support end-to-end design for accessible, user-centred digital products and services.

Roles involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across discovery, prototyping, validation and implementation, with a requirement for Australian citizenship and a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office) in Melbourne region.

UX/UI Designers – Multiple Roles at APS6 and EL1 Levels

We are seeking experienced UX/UI Designers for multiple opportunities at APS6 and EL1 equivalent levels, supporting the design and delivery of accessible, user-centred digital products and services within a complex Federal Government environment.

These roles will work across the end-to-end design lifecycle, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to understand user needs, solve complex experience challenges and translate insights into practical, accessible and evidence-based design solutions.

The opportunity

• 12 month initial contracts plus 12 month extension, rates fully negotiable
• Richmond or Geelong location, hybrid 3 days in office
• Federal Government roles – Australian citizenship is mandatory

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to UX/UI activities across discovery, design, prototyping, validation and implementation
• Apply human-centred design approaches to understand user needs and deliver accessible, effective digital experiences
• Translate user insights and business requirements into conceptual and implementation-ready designs, interaction specifications and supporting artefacts
• Facilitate workshops, design activities, stakeholder engagement and collaborative problem-solving sessions
• Work closely with product, business, technical and delivery teams to balance user, business and technical requirements
• Contribute to the evolution and adoption of design systems, reusable patterns, standards and design assets
• Provide specialist advice across UX, UI, accessibility and human-centred design
• Support knowledge sharing, mentoring and the ongoing uplift of UX/UI design capability

About you

To succeed in these roles you will need:

• Strong experience delivering UX/UI design across complex digital products and services
• Hands-on experience across human-centred design, user research, interaction and interface design, prototyping, testing and validation
• Demonstrated ability to translate user needs and research insights into practical, accessible and evidence-based design solutions
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and facilitation skills
• Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams including product managers, business analysts, developers and researchers
• Experience with contemporary UX/UI and prototyping tools such as Figma, FigJam, Miro or similar
• Strong knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design principles
• Experience with design systems, component libraries, reusable design patterns or design governance will be highly regarded
• Government, public sector or other highly regulated environment experience will also be highly regarded
• For the EL1-level opportunities, we are particularly interested in senior designers with demonstrated experience leading complex design initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders, providing authoritative UX/UI advice and mentoring or coaching other designers
