Job summary

Barminco is seeking an experienced Communications Technician to join our team on a full-time basis with a FIFO roster from Perth. You will install, commission, and maintain underground communications infrastructure to ensure reliable mine-wide connectivity.

You will support digital radios, fibre optics, IoT devices, and telemetry, collaborating with mining operations and IT/OT teams to enable autonomous operations and real-time data flow.

Qualifications

• Certificate III/IV in Telecommunications, Electronics, IT, or equivalent.
• ACMA Open Cabling Registration with Structured/Coaxial cabling endorsements.
• Experience installing and maintaining communications in mining or heavy industries.
• Ability to work FIFO from Perth and operate underground environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and maintain underground communications infrastructure including digital radio, fibre optic, leaky feeder, Wi-Fi mesh, and BLE.
• Support deployment, integration, and fault-finding of mining tech platforms (fleet management, proximity detection, tele-remote, monitoring).
• Assist in tele-remote mining systems for stable, low-latency comms between underground equipment and surface control.
• Install, test, and troubleshoot IoT devices, sensors, and telemetry equipment for data integrity.
• Collaborate with operations, electrical, and IT/OT teams to support edge devices and industrial gateways.
• Monitor, optimise, and maintain network performance for autonomous operations and data-driven decisions.
