Job summary

Sulzer is seeking a Mechanical Fitter (Turbine) for our Maitland Service Centre in NSW. Based in Maitland Workshop, you will perform maintenance on steam and gas turbines, including rotor balancing, disassembly and reassembly of turbine components, and precision measurements to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

The role requires a Trade Certificate III in Fitting & Turning or equivalent, plus proven turbine experience and licences (Driver's and Forklift).

Qualifications

• Trade certificate required (Fitting & Turning or equivalent).
• Experience on turbines/rotating machinery.
• Strong workload management and clear communication within a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on steam and gas turbines, including de-blading, re-blading, and rotor balancing.
• Disassemble, repair and balance turbine components such as shafts, journals and housings.
• Replace or repair mechanical components including gears, seals, impellers, fans and bearings.
• Operate and maintain balance of plant items to support reliability.
• Conduct measurements and inspections with precision tools and complete check sheets.
• Ensure safety and quality compliance by following procedures and using protective gear.

We are looking for a Mechanical Fitter (Turbine) to join our Maitland Service Centre

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

Based at our Maitland Workshop you will:

• Perform maintenance on steam and gas turbines, including complex tasks such as de-blading, re-blading, and rotor balancing, to maximize efficiency and operational longevity.
• Ensure safety and quality compliance by following procedures, using protective gear, and adhering to company values.
• Disassemble, repair, and balance mechanical equipment, including turbine shafts, journals, and housings, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Conduct measurements and inspections using precision tools, filling out check sheets accurately.
• Replace or repair mechanical components, including turbine gears, seals, impellers, fans, and bearings, ensuring seamless operation and reduced downtime.
• Operate and maintain balance of plant items, supporting overall equipment efficiency and reliability.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• Trade Certificate III in Fitting & Turning or similar.
• Proven experience in mechanical fitting on turbines and/or rotating machinery.
• Strong ability to manage workloads effectively while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Valid Driver’s and Forklift Licence.
