Job summary

City of Port Phillip seeks a Tree Establishment Officer to lead planning, delivery and continual improvement of the council's tree establishment program. You will drive quality, innovation and sustainability while guiding urban forest management across the organisation.

You’ll work within the Parks and Trees Team to shape the city’s tree canopy, with the ability to influence policy and standards and to collaborate with contractors and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline, together with a minimum of five years' relevant professional experience.
• Broad technical knowledge of urban forest management, including understanding of legislation, standards, policies and guidelines.
• Experience developing, implementing and managing tree planting, establishment and urban greening programs or similar initiatives.
• Experience providing specialist input into policies, strategies, plans and guidelines for urban forest management and canopy enhancement.
• Experience collecting, recording and managing data using digital devices, software and information systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and implement tree planting plans and establishment programs for street and park trees to support the Urban Forest Strategy 2024-2040.
• Respond to enquiries from stakeholders, provide specialist technical advice, and issue work instructions to contractors.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with contract specs, service standards and maintenance programs, maintaining records for delivery and accountability.
