Job summary

City of Charles Sturt is seeking an experienced arborist to provide expert guidance on tree management and urban forest initiatives. Youll help deliver the Canopy Strategy and support planting and maintenance programs across council and community contexts.

You will assess tree risk and advise across the organisation, collaborating with teams to achieve sustainable, resilient outcomes for our city’s trees and streetscapes.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent.
• Current drivers license.
• Experience undertaking tree assessments and providing arboricultural advice.
• Local government experience and additional arboriculture qualifications are highly regarded.

Want to play a key role in shaping the future of our City's urban forest? This is an opportunity to apply your arboricultural expertise in a role where your advice genuinely makes a difference.

Reporting directly to Council's City Arborist, you’ll help deliver Council's Canopy Strategy, supported by a strong organisational commitment to urban greening. Working across a diverse range of tree management, development and infrastructure matters, you'll undertake complex assessments, solve challenging problems and influence decisions that support a greener, healthier and more resilient City for our community.

As a trusted technical advisor, you'll work closely across the organisation and with the community providing expert guidance on tree management and urban forest initiatives. You'll also contribute to the delivery of tree planting and maintenance programs, helping to protect and enhance one of Council's most valued assets.

About You:

You're passionate about trees and urban forestry, understand the importance of trees in creating vibrant, liveable communities and have a desire to learn and keep abreast of urban forestry best practice. You enjoy solving complex problems, applying sound professional judgement and working collaboratively to achieve practical, sustainable outcomes.

Whether you're assessing tree risk, providing technical advice across the organisation or supporting urban forest initiatives, you're someone who combines expertise with a solutions focused and customer centred approach. You communicate confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders and are motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the urban environment.

You'll hold a Diploma in Arboriculture (or equivalent), a current driver's licence, and have experience undertaking tree assessments and providing professional arboricultural advice. Experience in local government, tree risk assessment and or relevant additional qualifications will be highly regarded.

About Our Team:

City Maintenance are equipped to care for open spaces across our beaches, reserves and parks, ensuring they are maintained and up to standard. This diverse portfolio is passionate and skilled in areas including property management and repair, irrigation, biodiversity, arboriculture, trees and sports turf, as well as program scheduling.

The Trees and Irrigation team is responsible for the development, enhancement and maintenance of trees and streetscapes, recreational reserves and sporting grounds. The team manage programmed and reactive work that involves detailed street tree pruning and care, and quality irrigation systems for attractive landscapes.

The Detail:

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and is classified at Level 5, with a salary range of $106,912 to $111,513 per annum + Super + Annual Leave Loading.
