Job summary

UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families in Mossman/Daintree region seeks an Adult Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor and Court Support Practitioner to provide trauma-informed counselling to adult victim-survivors and support through court processes.

You will conduct assessments, safety planning and coordinate referrals, delivering services across Port Douglas–Daintree, including outreach and virtual modes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
• Eligibility for registration with AASW/APS/ACA/PACFA/ACWA or equivalent.
• Experience providing counselling or therapeutic support to victims of DFV or trauma.
• Knowledge of coercive control, trauma-informed practice and DFV risk assessment.
• Understanding of Queensland DFV court processes.
• Ability to work independently with sound professional judgment in high-risk situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Current Queensland Driver license and Working with Children Check (Blue Card).

Responsibilities

• Providing trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based counselling to adult victim-survivors of DFV.
• Completing comprehensive assessments, DFV risk screening and collaborative safety planning.
• Developing and reviewing therapeutic and safety plans that respond to client circumstances.
• Using evidence-informed counselling approaches suited to individual needs.
• Providing practical, procedural and emotional support before, during and after court.
• Helping clients understand general court processes and access independent legal advice.
• Coordinating warm referrals and working with courts, police, health, housing and community services.
• Maintaining confidential client records, case notes and reports.
