Job summary

Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault in Morwell is seeking a Counsellor Advocate to deliver trauma-informed therapeutic support across the REFOCUS and SASS programs. You will assess, counsel, plan interventions, coordinate care, advocate, and respond to crises for clients affected by sexual assault, including children and young people.

Qualifications

• Degree or tertiary qualification in social work, counselling, social welfare, psychology, family therapy, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years trauma counselling with children, young people and families.
• Understanding of harmful sexual behaviour and developmental theory.
• Knowledge of sexual assault dynamics and gendered impacts across diverse populations.
• Trauma-informed practice, feminist empowerment and related frameworks.
• Strong record-keeping, administration and IT competency.
• Confidentiality and legislative knowledge relevant to client information.
• Willingness to travel across service areas; Victorian driver’s licence.
• Pre-employment checks and disclosures as required.

Responsibilities

• Clinical assessment, safety and risk management in line with relevant frameworks.
• Deliver trauma-informed counselling to clients and families affected by sexual assault.
• Provide crisis response and secondary consultation to referrers.
• Care coordination and advocacy to strengthen community connections and rights.
• Maintain confidential records and provide reports to stakeholders with consent.
• Engage in supervision, professional development, and quality initiatives.
• Participate in community education and outreach as requested.
• Perform additional duties as required by senior staff.
