Job summary

North West Hospital and Health Service is seeking a dedicated counsellor based in Mount Isa to deliver trauma-informed counselling and support across the North West region. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to strengthen sexual assault response services and provide high-quality care to survivor communities in remote areas.

The role emphasises advocacy across healthcare, forensic and legal pathways, plus collaboration with stakeholders to improve services.

Qualifications

• Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
• C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
• Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
• This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
• A period of probation may apply.
• This position may be required to obtain a Blue Card if clinically seeing a child under the age of 18 years as part of role.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialised trauma-informed counselling, psychosocial assessments and risk management for individuals affected by sexual assault and interpersonal trauma.
• Advocate for and support victim-survivors throughout their healthcare, forensic, legal and recovery journeys.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to clinicians, contribute to child protection and domestic and family violence responses, and build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
