Job summary

Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated Case Manager to join our OOHC team in Homebush, NSW. This full-time, 12-month fixed-term role is part of a values-led organisation focused on improving outcomes for children and families.

You will build strengths-based relationships, develop permanency-focused plans, assess risks to child safety, and advocate for rights and cultural identity of children in care. A rostered on-call service may apply.

Qualifications

• Tertiary degree level qualification in Human Services or related field, or relevant sector experience.
• Knowledge of child development and childhood developmental trauma.
• Knowledge of human and child rights, and the lasting harm of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Demonstrated experience of high quality partnership with children, young people, families and their communities in a child protection or OOHC context.
• Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities, including cultural safety, self-determination, and understanding historical and contemporary factors that impact Aboriginal peoples.

Responsibilities

• Build strong, strengths-based relationships with children, young people, carers, families and community stakeholders.
• Develop, implement and review permanency-focused case plans to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
• Assess and respond to risks relating to child safety, wellbeing, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
• Advocate for the rights, wellbeing and cultural identity of children and young people in care.
• Collaborate with parents, kin, carers and service providers to strengthen family capacity and support networks.
• Participate in a rostered on-call service, providing after-hours support and crisis response when required.

Education

Tertiary degree level qualification in Human Services or related field

Knowledge of child development and childhood developmental trauma

Knowledge of human and child rights; impact of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Partnership with children, young people, families and communities

Cultural safety, self-determination, understanding of historical factors affecting Aboriginal peoples
