Banking Circle is seeking a Transaction Monitoring Analyst in Sydney, Australia, to join our AML team. You will review transactions, assess alerts, and investigate unusual activity to ensure compliance with AML/CTF obligations.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of AML experience, including transaction monitoring
  • Knowledge of financial crime typologies and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience in Payments/Fintech or Correspondent Banking preferred
  • Strong IT skills and ability to work with large datasets

Responsibilities

  • Review alerts generated by monitoring systems and assess transaction patterns
  • Conduct Account Activity Reviews and customer transaction reviews using a risk-based approach
  • Conduct investigations on clients’ merchants and other corporate entities
  • Identify, investigate and escalate suspicious transactions to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure timely closure of Reviews, Alerts and Investigations
  • Collate information to form concise decisions on complex cases

In this role, you will get the chance to become part of a dynamic, knowledgeable, and collaborative team of AML professionals to ensure that the business meets its Anti-Money Laundering obligations. As part of the Transaction Monitoring team, you will review and analyze customer transactions to detect unusual activity, potential money laundering, or other financial crime risks. Using advanced monitoring systems and your own investigative skills, you’ll assess alerts, document your findings, and upscale cases where suspicious activities are found.

We offer a hybrid work model for our employees to allow for flexibility and productivity. However, we do expect you to spend most of your time in the office to build community and efficiency in the team.

  • Review alerts generated by monitoring systems and assess transaction patterns
  • Conduct Account Activity Reviews (AARs) and customer transaction reviews using a risk-based approach to assess if activity is in line with Client profile and expected behavior
  • Conduct investigations on clients’ merchants and other corporate entities
  • Identify, investigate and escalation suspicious transactions, unusual activity and financial crime concerns to relevant stakeholders in accordance with Banking Circle policies and AUSTRAC regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure timely closure of Reviews, Alerts and Investigations
  • Collate information to form concise decisions on complex cases
  • Raise suspicious transactions and activities
  • Identify relevant money laundering and terrorist financing typologies and trends
  • Ad hoc AML projects within the team

Things we’ll look for on your resume
To be the right candidate for this position, we expect you to have a relevant educational background and demonstrated knowledge of financial crime typologies. You have a strong working knowledge of the global legislative and regulatory framework for AML and 2+years’ experience in AML, including transaction monitoring, preferably in Payments/Fintech or Correspondent Banking. You are comfortable utilizing information from several sources to make a concise decision.

As a person, you take ownership of your tasks, and you are solution oriented in your approach to challenges. You are proactive in a fast-paced environment, a confident decision-maker, and a strong analytical problem solver with a high attention to detail. You have solid IT skills, as this is a requirement to succeed in this role. Lastly, we expect you to be a knowledge sharing team-player who creates positive working relationships with others.

Also, you have strong technical and analytical skills, with experience working with large transactional datasets. Strong Excel skills and experience with SQL and data extraction are advantageous. Knowledge of the Australian AML/CTF regulatory framework and AUSTRAC requirements would be highly regarded.
