Job summary

Bank Australia is seeking an AML Officer to support the Customer Support and Recoveries function and lead investigations into potential money laundering and financial crime risks. You will prepare SMRs for AUSTRAC and contribute to the AML framework, with strong focus on KYC and due diligence for high-risk clients.

You will collaborate across teams, apply continuous improvement, and provide SME guidance on onboarding and risk assessment to protect the bank’s brand and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations of suspicious transactions and customer behavior flagged by monitoring systems.
  • Perform Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients including PEPs.
  • Prepare and submit SMRs to AUSTRAC within regulatory timeframes.
  • Improve AML/CTF procedures using continuous improvement methods.
  • Complete KYC assessments including cyclical refreshes per risk.
  • Provide SME guidance on onboarding requirements per AML/CTF rules.
  • Offer feedback on rule performance, typologies and scenarios.
  • Investigate and advise on exit of customers when required.
  • Support AML/KYC initiatives and projects with subject matter expertise.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and other financial institutions as needed.

Job description

The AML Officer will support the Customer Support and Recoveries function and play a critical part in identifying, investigating, and mitigating potential money laundering and financial crime risks. You will lead complex investigations, support regulatory reporting, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Bank Australia’s AML framework.

What you will be doing

  • Conduct thorough investigations of suspicious transactions and customer behaviour flagged by the bank’s transaction monitoring systems.
  • Perform Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients, including politically exposed persons (PEPs).
  • Prepare and submit Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) to AUSTRAC within regulatory timeframes required by the AML/CTF Act.
  • Utilise continuous improvement methodologies to improve procedures and processes to optimize the operation of the AML/CTF Program.
  • Complete relevant customer due diligence assessment including cyclical KYC refresh as per customer risk assessment.
  • Provide SME guidance to business and the frontline on KYC onboarding requirements in accordance with AML/CTF program and rules.
  • Provide feedback and insight into rule performance, typologies and scenarios.
  • Complete investigations and recommendations to off-board customers (Exit), where required.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support on initiatives and projects that impact AML/CTF.
  • Liaise with law enforcement officers including police, and other financial institutions and support AML/KYC Analyst on complex police enquiries
  • Ensure the Bank’s brand is protected by investigating and responding appropriately.
  • Attend team meetings and training as required, providing feedback and input on current trends, risks and mitigation strategies.
