People First Bank is seeking a Financial Crime Data Analytics professional to join our high-impact AML/CTF team in Australia. You will leverage SQL and analytics to identify risks, develop detection rules, and translate complex data into practical controls.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years' experience in financial crime analytics, risk analytics or data analytics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Use SQL and data analytics to analyse large and complex datasets, identify unusual transaction and customer behaviours, investigate trends and generate insights into potential financial crime risks.
  • Develop, test and refine transaction monitoring rules and scenarios to improve detection effectiveness and reduce unnecessary alerts.
  • Analyse AML/CTF typologies, transaction patterns and financial crime intelligence to identify emerging risks and translate them into practical detection strategies.
  • Develop data-driven analysis to understand customer and transaction risk profiles and support evidence-based decisions on AML/CTF controls.
  • Partner with Financial Crime and first-line teams to translate complex financial crime risks into effective, data-driven controls.
  • Investigate and explain complex datasets, identifying patterns, anomalies and relationships that may indicate emerging financial crime risks.

About the role – 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Join a high-impact Financial Crime team where your expertise will directly shape the Bank's AML/CTF detection capability. Using financial crime intelligence, analytics and transaction monitoring, you'll play a pivotal role in identifying emerging AML/CTF risks, strengthening controls and helping protect the Bank and its customers.

Key responsibilities include
  • Use SQL and data analytics to analyse large and complex datasets, identify unusual transaction and customer behaviours, investigate trends and generate insights into potential financial crime risks.
  • Develop, test and refine transaction monitoring rules and scenarios, using data and financial crime intelligence to improve detection effectiveness and reduce unnecessary alerts.
  • Analyse AML/CTF typologies, transaction patterns and financial crime intelligence to identify emerging risks and translate them into practical detection strategies.

About you

We are looking for someone who combines strong SQL/data analytics capability with a genuine interest in financial crime.

You don't need to come from a traditional compliance background. We're particularly interested in people who have experience working with large datasets, SQL, transaction monitoring, fraud, financial crime analytics, risk analytics or similar data-driven detection environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following
  • Strong SQL skills and experience querying, analysing and manipulating complex datasets. You are comfortable writing SQL to investigate data, identify patterns and answer complex analytical questions.
  • 1+ years' experience in financial crime analytics, risk analytics or data analytics or a related field, preferably within banking or financial services.
  • Experience using data and analytics to identify anomalies, investigate behaviours or improve risk/detection controls.
  • An understanding of AML/CTF concepts, money laundering and terrorism financing typologies and financial crime risks, with the ability to translate these into analytical or detection requirements.
  • Experience with transaction monitoring systems, customer screening, fraud detection or other risk detection platforms will be highly regarded.
  • The ability to communicate analytical findings clearly and translate complex data and financial crime concepts into practical recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous
  • SQL-based financial crime or transaction monitoring analytics
  • Transaction monitoring rule/scenario development and tuning
  • AML/CTF or fraud analytics
  • Customer risk or behavioural analytics
  • Data analysis within banking, payments or financial services
  • Python, R, SAS, Tableau, Power BI or similar analytics tools
  • CAMS or another AML/CTF qualification
