About you

You will be someone who is genuinely inspired by helping people recognise their strengths, build confidence and create meaningful career pathways while supporting the enduring work of caring for Country. Warm, patient and culturally respectful, you will take the time to listen, earn trust and build productive relationships with ranger teams, coordinators, training providers and community partners across the Pilbara. You will also be highly organised and practical to coordinate training schedules, travel, venues, participant communication and accurate records, adapt calmly when plans change, and travel regularly across regional and remote locations. Most importantly, you will know when to step forward to provide structure and when to step back so people can shape solutions that reflect their own needs, aspirations and communities.

About us

Ngarda-Ngarli Marlpa, together caring for ngurraRanger teams across the Pilbara are caring for their country, combining cultural practice with contemporary land management. The Pilbara Ranger Network is an Aboriginal-led corporation that grew out of eight years of regional collaboration between eleven ranger teams and more than 200 rangers, across a region of more than 178,000 square kilometres.

Everything PRN does rests on good cultural governance and cultural protocols. From that foundation, we work with ranger teams to come together and support each other as rangers and coordinators, and to strengthen ranger programs and grow careers and pathways. We also help build partnerships the right way, connecting teams with the expertise they need and lifting the profile of the Pilbara ranger sector.

Each ranger team is independent and works on its own country. PRN supports teams individually with what they need and brings them together on the challenges and opportunities that reach across the region.

We are a small and growing team based in Karratha, working closely with ranger teams across the region. Working here means working alongside ranger teams continuing one of the world's oldest living traditions of caring for country, in one of Australia's most biodiverse regions.

About the role

Growing ranger and coordinator careers is one of Pilbara Ranger Networks (PRN's) core priorities, and its members have identified training and career development as a critical need. The Training and Capability Coordinator takes responsibility for that work across the network leading training partnerships, coordinating training events and programs, supporting ranger and coordinator professional development, identifying career pathways, and building relationships with training providers.

The PRN connects and supports Aboriginal ranger programs across the Pilbara, bringing people together to share knowledge, build skills, and strengthen land and sea management across Traditional Owner groups. PRN now spans eleven ranger teams and a growing staff and consultant team.

Training in the region is delivered by TAFE, registered training organisations and independent trainers. You build and hold those relationships, shape what is offered so it is tailored to ranger work and delivered on country, and bring in other opportunities where they fit. Each ranger team is independent and sets its own priorities, and part of the role is finding where those priorities line up across the network. As a new position, the first year involves establishing systems and relationships as much as running programs.

You report to the General Manager and work closely with PRN staff, ranger teams, ranger coordinators, training providers, and funders. You work with a high degree of autonomy, setting your own day-to-day priorities, with regular check-ins and support from the General Manager. The role is based in Karratha, with regular travel across the Pilbara including to remote communities and on-country training.
