This is aFull-time, Fixed Term (3 years) role.
Our country is a living landscape – our culture, heritage, laws and language are linked to the land.
The Mimal Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) covers 17,188 km of south-central Arnhem Land. Our IPA is Aboriginal land, part of the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Land Trust area; and area held as Inalienable Freehold under the provisions of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976.
It was developed through in-depth consultation with more than 36 clan groups who collaborated with Indigenous rangers, researchers and scientists to map and prioritise Mimal’s environmental and cultural assets, identify threats and outline ways to manage them.
The area’s natural and cultural assets are managed by Mimal Rangers on behalf of and in cooperation with landowners and custodians.
Under an established Healthy Country Plan, the rangers manage land, water and fire, and conduct wildlife protection, monitoring and revegetation programs, weed and feral animal control, and carry out rock art, cultural history and language projects and learning on country education programs with school children.
Mimal is seeking an energetic and community-minded Youth Ranger Coordinator to establish and lead a new Youth Ranger Program. This is a unique opportunity to build a program from the ground up, working alongside Traditional Owners, Elders, young people, families, schools, ranger teams and training providers to create meaningful pathways into education, employment and community leadership.
Rather than stepping into an existing framework, you'll help shape a program that responds to the aspirations and needs of local young people, particularly those who may not currently be engaged through traditional school-to-ranger pathways.
Working across Mimal's programs, you'll identify opportunities to build on existing initiatives while creating new experiences that strengthen cultural connection, wellbeing, confidence and future employment prospects.
You’ll coordinate on-Country activities, training, mentoring and work experience opportunities, helping young people build skills and confidence while exploring pathways into ranger work, land management, trades, civil construction and other career opportunities.
The role combines community engagement, program design and hands‑on coordination. You'll facilitate co‑design processes, develop partnerships, support program delivery, track outcomes, prepare reports for funders and contribute to the long‑term sustainability of the program.
