Job summary

Penske Australia & New Zealand is hiring a Trainee Parts Advisor at the Altona branch. You will learn parts interpretation, assist with inventory control and support the Parts, Service and Sales teams in a fast-paced environment.

You will gain hands-on experience with leading brands and develop technical knowledge while delivering excellent customer service and building strong customer relationships.

Qualifications

• Year 12 completion or progress toward a relevant certificate.
• Desirable certificate in Parts Interpreting or related field.

• Answer customer enquiries at the counter and over the phone, ensuring correct parts supply.
• Support parts inventory management including stock monitoring, ordering and stocktakes.
• Use catalogues and technical data to interpret and supply parts accurately.
• Build customer relationships and promote genuine parts and related products.
• Assist with merchandising, reporting and documentation; participate in field service when needed.

We’re looking for a motivated Trainee Parts Advisor to join our Altona branch and develop into a skilled parts professional supporting our Parts, Service and Sales teams.

In this full‑time role, you’ll learn how to deliver exceptional customer service and parts interpretation, support inventory flow, and build strong relationships with customers who rely on our genuine parts and technical expertise. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with industry‑leading brands including MTU, Detroit Diesel, Allison and more, while developing your technical knowledge and confidence in a fast‑paced environment.

About the role

• Responding to customer enquiries at the counter and over the phone, ensuring they receive the right parts and information.


• Supporting parts inventory management, including stock monitoring, ordering and participating in stocktakes.


• Using catalogues, bulletins and technical data to accurately interpret and supply parts.


• Building strong customer relationships and promoting genuine parts and associated products.


• Assisting with merchandising, reporting, and maintaining accurate job documentation.


• Supporting the team through multi‑skilling and participating in field service activities when required.

About You

• Completion of Year 12 or progress toward a Certificate in Parts Interpreting (desirable).


• Ideally 2+ years’ experience in a parts interpreting or related role.


• Basic understanding of internal combustion engines and (preferably) automatic transmissions.


• Ability to read and interpret catalogues and technical literature.


• Strong computer skills, particularly in Outlook, Word and Excel.


• A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to excellent customer service.
