Job summary

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District is offering a 13-month Trainee Assistant in Nursing program at Garrawarra Centre, Waterfall, NSW. Trainees complete a nationally recognised Certificate III in Health Services Assistance while working full-time and rotating 24/7 shifts.

The program starts on 8 February 2027, with the opportunity to gain on-the-job nursing experience under supervision. Applicants must be 18+, and the position is targeted for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Qualifications

• DO NOT HOLD a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Descriptor: Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care) or equivalent
• Good written and verbal communications skills
• Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to follow directions
• Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain before commencement in February 2027

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care activities to residents with dementia in accordance with the nursing care plan and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Assist Registered and Enrolled Nurses with resident care interventions as directed
• Contribute to collecting accurate health care information and maintaining accurate health care documentation as required
• Communicate effectively with residents and other health care team members in accordance with appropriate protocol
