Job summary

APG Workforce is seeking a motivated Trainee Materials Officer to join a government department in Warwick, QLD. You will perform supervised materials testing and sampling of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt, gaining practical experience in road transport infrastructure.

You will work across laboratory and field environments, travelling regionally to sites, with training and on-the-job support to develop core testing and data analysis skills. Safety and PPE compliance are essential.

Qualifications

• Current Class C Driver Licence is mandatory.
• Manual handling to 25 kg must be performed safely.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to undertake regional travel and field work.
• Ability to operate in locations with limited mobile coverage.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
• Solid numeracy skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Perform materials testing procedures under supervision and in accordance with standards.
• Undertake sampling and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, bitumen and asphalt.
• Assist with investigation and research projects using project management principles.
• Assist with analysis of test data, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
• Operate testing equipment, apparatus and reagents per procedures.
• Ensure PPE and safety equipment are used correctly at all times.
• Comply with WHS requirements and governance obligations.
• Assist experienced staff with pavement investigations and sampling.
• Travel to various locations for field work across the region.
• Work in both indoor labs and outdoor field environments.
• Undertake regular physical duties including lifting up to 25kg and traversing uneven terrain.
