WGA - Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec is seeking a Trainee Drafter to join our Newcastle team. This full-time, entry-level position supports civil and structural design drafting while you complete the MEM40422 Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting.

The role starts in February 2027 to align with the training course. No drafting experience is required; Year 12 completion in 2026 or soon will be considered. WGA covers training costs and provides study time during work hours.

About our Role:

Our Newcastle office is seeking a committed and enthusiastic person to join the team as a Trainee Drafter. This entry-level opportunity will help you build practical skills in civil and structural design drafting while contributing to a diverse range of projects. You will complete hands-on drafting tasks, learn from experienced engineers and designers, and receive structured training, mentoring and feedback as your capability develops. Your work will support the delivery of infrastructure and building projects across WGA’s markets and help you understand how designs progress from an idea to a practical solution.

This is a full-time position based in our Newcastle office, commencing in February 2027 to align with the start of the TAFE NSW Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting course. It is suited to students completing Year 12 in 2026, recent school leavers, or others who are ready to begin an engineering drafting career.

As part of the traineeship, the successful candidate will complete the TAFE NSW Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting (MEM40422). WGA will cover the cost of the training program and provide study time during working hours, allowing the trainee to combine formal learning with practical, on-the-job experience.

• Completing Year 12 in 2026, a recent school leaver, or able to demonstrate a genuine interest in engineering drafting and undertaking a relevant Certificate IV qualification
