Job summary

Orica is hiring a Trainee MMU Operator at Deer Park Quarry sites. You will join a team with blasting experience and receive training to operate an MMU, a heavy vehicle with onboard systems, delivering explosives to predrilled holes.

This role involves outdoor, physically demanding work, learning from experienced operators, and progressing through a structured development path within a global mining leader.

Qualifications

• A current Heavy Rigid (HR) driver’s license is preferable.
• Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions in a physically demanding environment.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.
• Self-motivated, positive, team-based attitude.
• A basic mechanical comprehension is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate blasting plant and assist with preventive maintenance.
• Support blast crew as a bench assistant and learn MMU operations.
• Work in the field with teammates delivering explosive products to holes.
• Work outdoors in a physically demanding environment.
• Provide excellent service to customers and perform daily administration as required.

About the role

We are delighted to announce that we are inviting applications for the role of Trainee MMU Operator based at our Deer Park Quarry sites.

Our Trainee MMU Operators form part of a team with significant blasting experience. A safe, high-performing, and supportive environment to enable each employee to succeed in their job role. As a valued team member, you will be specifically trained and supported to perform duties within our blast crew, as a bench assistant, and eventually operate an MMU (Mobile Manufacturing Unit). An MMU is a highly advanced, heavy-rigid vehicle fitted with the latest technologies and onboard computer systems. It is used to pump explosive products into pre-drilled blast holes on our customer sites.

What you will be doing

• Operating blasting plant and machinery and assisting with preventative maintenance;
• Working in the field with your teammates to assist with the 'hands-on' delivery of explosive products down predrilled blast holes at quarry sites;

• Daily administration and customer interactions when required.

What you will bring

• A current Heavy Rigid (HR) driver’s license is preferable;
• Demonstrated previous experience working outdoors in all weather conditions in a physically demanding environment;
• The ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening;
• A motivated self-starter, positive, team-based attitude where you look out for your mates;
• A basic mechanical comprehension would be highly regarded.
