Job summary

Orica invites applications for a Shotfirer and MMU Operator to join our North Bowen Basin coal operations. Drive-in drive-out 7 days on/off with camp facilities provided for the roster.

You will load, tie and fire large shots, operate the MMU, and support preventative maintenance while mentoring new crew members and ensuring safety and compliance on site.

Qualifications

• Experience operating as a qualified Shotfirer with valid licensure.
• Knowledge of explosives storage regulations and blasting procedures.
• Current QLD Shotfirers Licence and Explosives Clearance.
• Current HR licence (desirable).
• Impeccable safety record and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide blasting knowledge, direction and advice to blast crews and stakeholders.
• Perform shotfiring duties including magazine management and blasting operations.
• Operate MMU and assist with preventative maintenance.
• Mentor training of new team members and uphold safety standards.

About the role

We are delighted to announce that we are currently seeking applications for an experienced Shotfirer and MMU Operator to join one of our large Coal Operations teams in the North Bowen Basin!
In this role, you will assist and provide direction, supervision, and guidance to the Blast Crew in the process of loading, tying, and firing large shots. You will also operate the MMU to pump the explosive product into pre-drilled blast holes on our customer site.
This role will be Drive-in Drive-out (DIDO), operating mostly on 7 days on/7 days off rosters, and camp facilities will be provided for the duration of the roster.

What you will be doing

As a Shotfirer

• Providing operational blasting knowledge, direction and advice to Orica’s blast crews and associated stakeholders;
• Shotfiring duties including magazine management, managing the loading, tying and firing of blasts, following drill and blast designs;
• Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide excellence in service to our valued customers;
• You will assisting with the training and mentoring of new team members;
• At all times acting with integrity and respect.

As an MMU Operator

• Operating our MMU vehicle (Mobile Manufacturing Units) and other associated blasting plant and machinery;
• Assisting with preventative maintenance.
• You will assist with the 'hands-on' delivery of explosive products down pre-drilled blast holes on bench;
• Working in tight unison with your teammates to provide an excellence in service to our valued customers;
• Daily administration and customer interactions.

What you will bring

As a Shotfirer

• Experience operating as a full shotfirer;
• Authorised iKon Shotfirer required, or prior experience working with iKon systems;
• Knowledge of explosives storage regulations and blasting procedures;
• A QLD Shotfirers Licence;
• Current HR licence (desirable but not essential);
• Hold a current QLD Explosives Security Clearance;
• An impeccable safety record and commitment toward safety.

As an MMU Operator

• An unquestionable attitude toward working safely as a priority;
• Experience operating an MMU, or similar blast delivery vehicle; or
• Current HR Licence;
• A current QLD Explosives Security Clearance;
• A positive team-orientated work ethic;
• A positive attitude to customer service.
