Ventia is hiring a Tradesperson Assistant to support maintenance and refurbishment of Defence assets from Ross Island Barracks, South Townsville. You will assist with the Paint and Blast Workshop, surface prep, blasting and painting, and support broader workshop operations.

Ideal candidates have workshop experience in automotive/industrial settings, hold a Driver's Licence and a Confined Space Entry ticket, and are ready to gain additional licences.

Join Ventia on the Defence Maintenance Contract in a hands‑on role supporting the maintenance and readiness of critical Defence assets.

Based at Ross Island Barracks, South Townsville, the Tradesperson Assistant will support marine maintenance operations, assisting with a diverse range of tasks associated with the service, repair and refurbishment of Defence assets. Working alongside skilled trades personnel, you'll primarily support activities within the Paint and Blast Workshop, while contributing to broader workshop and maintenance operations.

• $35.40 per hour + 12% Super.
• Permanent full-time position offering excellent work-life balance with a Monday to Friday roster and an early finish on Fridays.

About the Role

• Assist trades personnel with maintenance, repair and workshop activities.

• Carry out general workshop housekeeping and ensure work areas remain safe and organised.

About You

• Experience working in an automotive, industrial, heavy vehicle, mining, Defence or similar workshop environment.
• Experience working in a paint and blast, vehicle repair, fabrication or maintenance workshop will be highly regarded.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Current Confined Space Entry ticket.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support skilled trades personnel across a variety of maintenance activities.
• Willingness to obtain additional licences and tickets required for the role.

The following licences and tickets are desirable, but not essential:

• High Risk Work Licence with forklift competency.
• Working at Heights ticket.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket.

You must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a minimum Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.
