Job summary

Sydney Water is seeking an experienced Trade Waste Compliance Specialist to join the Business Customer Accounts team. You’ll build trusted partnerships with medium to high-value business customers, visiting sites and depots to deliver strategic guidance on trade waste compliance.

You’ll identify and onboard customers to trade waste agreements and promote innovative services that improve waste water quality, sustainability, and broader network resilience.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
• Valid driver’s licence required.
• Experience in a relevant compliance/account management role with regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Onboard customers for trade waste agreements and manage onboarding discussions.
• Act as primary relationship lead for low to medium-risk business customers.
• Ensure contractual obligations are met and monitor regulatory compliance.

• Manage compliance and relationships with Sydney Water’s business customers
• Various locations including Potts Hill, St Marys and Ryde office with a large field-based element
• EA Level 12: $121,860.59 base salary plus super plus fleet vehicle

About the role

Are you an experienced compliance officer or account manager with technical experience in trade waste or similar highly regulated industry? This is an excellent opportunity to join our Business Customer Accounts’ team as a Trade Waste Compliance Specialist.

This field-based role will build trusted partnerships with Sydney Water’s medium to high-value business customers. You’ll be largely field based, regularly visiting customer sites and Sydney Water depots to deliver strategic support and expert guidance.

You’ll play a key role in identifying and onboarding customers to trade waste agreements as well as introduce innovative, unregulated products and services that drive better outcomes. From boosting customer engagement to improving waste water quality, trade waste management, and sustainability, your work will help shape smarter, more resilient water solutions across our network.

Note:This role will be titled Business Customer Specialist for internal purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent Sydney Water in onboarding customers while undertaking potentially challenging discussions with professionalism and strategic insight.
• Act as a primary relationship lead for Sydney Water’s low to medium-risk business customers, building strong partnerships and ensuring long-term success.
• Ensure customers meet their contractual obligations under the Customer Contract and any additional agreements, maintaining compliance and accountability.
• Assess, implement, and monitor trade waste discharge approvals, using business tools to track and maintain customer compliance.

About you:

• In addition to tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, and a valid driver’s licence, we are looking for:
• Experience in a relevant role with a proven track record of achieving objectives.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• Experience identifying and delivering solutions to complex customer requests while ensuring regulatory compliance and sound commercial outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services to business customers.
• Strong understanding of the impacts of commercial and industrial customers on water authority operations.
• Technical knowledge of program delivery mechanisms tailored to diverse business customer needs.
• Proven ability to work safely in field environments.
