Birdon in Port Macquarie is seeking motivated Trade Assistants - Boilermaking to support our fabrication and shipyard teams. You will assist qualified boilermakers, welders, and fabricators with general workshop tasks, including steel preparation and material handling.

This hands-on role requires practical experience, a white card, and a proactive attitude. We offer a four-day work week, competitive rates for permanent or casual staff, and opportunities to travel across diverse marine projects.

Qualifications

• No trade qualification required; hands-on experience with welding aluminium and steel is valued.
• Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card) is required.
• Experience using hand tools, grinders, drills, or basic fabrication equipment.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and a team-first safety mindset.

Responsibilities

• Assist boilermakers, welders, fabricators, and mechanical trades with daily tasks.
• Support preparation, grinding, drilling, cleanup, and basic fabrication activities.
• Handle materials, tools and equipment safely in a workshop or shipyard environment.
• Follow instructions from trades, leading hands and supervisors.

About the role

This is a hands-on role assisting qualified boilermakers, welders, and fabricators with general workshop and shipyard tasks. You will support steel preparation, material handling, clean-up, fitting assistance, and safe day-to-day production activities.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting boilermakers, welders, fabricators, and mechanical trades with daily tasks
• Supporting preparation, grinding, drilling, clean-up, and basic fabrication activities
• Handling materials, tools, and equipment safely in a workshop or shipyard environment
• Following instructions from trades, leading hands, and supervisors
• Working safely and contributing to a productive team environment

About you

You may not be trade qualified, but you will have practical hands-on experience and the right attitude. To be successful, you will bring:

• A current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Experience using hand tools, grinders, drills, or basic fabrication equipment
• Previous experience supporting boilermakers, welders, fabricators, or similar trades
• A strong work ethic and reliable approach to work
