Job summary

Birdon Group in Port Macquarie is seeking motivated Trade Assistants - Boilermaking to support our fabrication and shipyard teams. This hands-on role does not require a trade qualification, but welding aluminium and steel to a high standard is expected.

You will assist boilermakers, welders and fabricators on diverse projects across new builds, refits, repairs and marine vessels. Four-day weeks and relocation assistance are offered.

Qualifications

• No trade qualification required, hands-on experience essential.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card) preferred.
• Experience using hand tools, grinders, drills or basic fabrication equipment.
• Willingness to learn and work safely in a marine fabrication environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist boilermakers, welders and fabricators with daily tasks.
• Support preparation, grinding, drilling, cleanup and basic fabrication.
• Handle materials, tools and equipment safely in workshop/shipyard.
• Follow instructions from trades, leading hands and supervisors.
• Contribute to a productive team and safe work practices.

About the role

This is a hands-on role assisting qualified boilermakers, welders, and fabricators with general workshop and shipyard tasks. You will support steel preparation, material handling, cleanup, fitting assistance, and safe day-to-day production activities.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting boilermakers, welders, fabricators, and mechanical trades with daily tasks
• Supporting preparation, grinding, drilling, cleanup, and basic fabrication activities
• Handling materials, tools, and equipment safely in a workshop or shipyard environment
• Following instructions from trades, leading hands, and supervisors
• Working safely and contributing to a productive team environment

About you

You may not be trade qualified, but you will have practical hands-on experience and the right attitude. To be successful, you will bring:

• A current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Experience using hand tools, grinders, drills, or basic fabrication equipment
• Previous experience supporting boilermakers, welders, fabricators, or similar trades
• A strong work ethic and reliable approach to work
• A team-first attitude with a focus on working safely
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and build skills in the marine fabrication industry
