Job summary

Downer Group in Swanbank, QLD is seeking a Mechanical Trade Assistant to support our mechanics and fabricators in a busy workshop. You will assist with maintenance, basic servicing, and small engine repairs while learning from experienced tradespeople.

This hands-on role requires a current driver's licence and experience operating manual and automatic vehicles. The position offers training, safety-focused culture, and opportunities to grow within a large national organisation.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Driver's Licence.
• Experience operating both manual and automatic vehicles.
• Experience in automotive mechanical, fabrication, maintenance, or a similar hands-on trade environment.

We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Mechanical Trade Assistant to help keep our operations running smoothly in our Swanbank workshop. About the Role

In this role, you'll support our mechanics and fabricators with day-to-day maintenance activities, helping ensure our fleet and equipment remain safe, reliable, and ready for operation. This is a fast-paced workshop environment where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist qualified tradespeople with mechanical and fabrication tasks

What You’ll Bring

Mandatory Requirements

• Current and valid Driver's Licence


• Experience operating both manual and automatic vehicles


• Experience in automotive mechanical, fabrication, maintenance, or a similar hands-on trade environment

Highly Desirable

• MR Driver's Licence (or willingness to obtain)


• Forklift Licence (or willingness to obtain)


• Experience working in a stores or parts environment


• Small engine repair and maintenance experience
