Job summary

Southside Racing is seeking a Track & Grounds Assistant at our Pakenham Racecourse to support track maintenance and outdoor tasks throughout the week and on race days. You will help repair the track, prepare surfaces, and contribute to grounds upkeep and landscaping.

Working within a small team, you will perform routine maintenance, follow OH&S procedures, and wear PPE. A valid driver's license and reliable transport are preferred to reach Tynong where public transport is limited.

Qualifications

• Understanding of service delivery in a racing environment.
• Flexibility with working hours to suit the racing calendar.
• Current driver's license or reliable transport to Tynong.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Experience with Thoroughbred horses is desirable.
• Ability to foster relationships and work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Repair divots and maintain the track surface during training and race days.
• Assist in preparing the track for training sessions and race meetings.
• Work in teams of 2-3 within designated track sections.
• Occasionally assist with other duties as required.
• Comply with OH&S procedures and report unsafe conditions.
• Use and maintain PPE and safety equipment appropriately.
• Adhere to Southside Racing's internal policies and brand values.
• Be available across a 7-day operational schedule.

The opportunity

Southside Racing is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individuals to assume the role of Track and Grounds Assistant at our Pakenham Racecourse. Reporting to the Racecourse manager, The role of the Track & Grounds Assistant is to assist track maintenance and repairs throughout the week, as well as assisting with various tasks during scheduled race days.

During the week, the Track & Grounds Assistant helps with repairing and maintaining the track following horse training sessions. This includes filling in divots and using a stomper to restore the surface, ensuring the track is properly prepared for the next day’s training. General garden maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and plant care. Grounds preparation for landscaping, planting, and other outdoor projects. Carrying out track rail repairs and maintenance as required and performing general maintenance and upkeep of the training centre facilities.
