Job summary

Cairns Jockey Club in Cairns, Queensland, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead a small Track & Facilities team responsible for the racecourse, training facilities and surrounding grounds. The role is outdoor and leadership‑driven, with a focus on delivering high‑quality surfaces and well‑maintained grounds.

You will coordinate daily maintenance, work with machinery and equipment, ensure safety standards, and contribute to continuous improvements across the Club’s facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or leading a small team.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Able to plan, prioritise and work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
• Current Queensland Driver Licence.
• White Card.
• Experience with heavy machinery.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with preparation and presentation of safe, high‑quality racing and training surfaces.
• Providing day‑to‑day leadership and direction to the Track & Facilities team.
• Planning, coordinating and supervising daily maintenance activities.
• Administration and record keeping for maintenance and improvement programs.
• Assisting with irrigation, agronomic and turf maintenance programs.
• Operating and maintaining a range of specialised turf equipment and machinery.
• Coordinating race day preparation and supporting racing operations.
• Maintaining high standards of workplace health and safety.
• Assisting with ongoing improvement of the Club's grounds and facilities.

Reporting to the Track & Facilities Manager, this role will help lead a small team that ensures the racecourse, training facilities and surrounding grounds are maintained to the highest possible standard. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, leading a team and takes pride in maintaining first‑class sporting facilities.

Key responsibilities
