Job summary

Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a Tourism and Events Manager to lead the Advance Rockhampton tourism and events teams, driving major events, festivals and regional growth.

You will develop strategies to promote Rockhampton as a premier destination, coordinate with stakeholders, manage budgets, and deliver sustainable growth for the region. This full-time, four-year contract offers an attractive salary of about $175,000 per year including superannuation and vehicle allowance.

Major Events

You’ll have the opportunity to shape, promote and deliver major events that put Rockhampton on the map, driving both economic and cultural growth. Council delivers a diverse program of major events attended by some 200,000 people annually and delivering over $17M in economic benefit.

As a leader, you’ll be instrumental in aligning event strategies with broader regional goals, ensuring sustainable and innovative growth. This role offers a platform to develop and showcase your skills in event management, marketing, and strategic planning, making a lasting impact on the region.

The Rockhampton region hosts a wide range of major events, including Rockynat s , Queensland’s largest car festival,Rocky River Run, Rocky Show,the Rockhampton River Festiva l and CapriCon.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for
  • Degree in Marketing, Business Management, or related field, or equivalent experience in marketing, event management, and regional tourism.
  • High-level organisational skills with experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Excellent business management and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of effectively managing and motivating a team.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in strategic marketing, securing sponsorships, and financial management.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills, with experience in developing and evaluating marketing, events, and tourism campaigns.

Application Criteria
  • Degree in Marketing, Business Management, and/or a related discipline, or demonstrated exceptional experience in marketing, event management, and regional tourism.
  • Demonstrated experience in major event and festival planning, management and delivery.
  • Proven track recordin a tourism development/promotional role, preferably in regional communities.
  • Demonstrated engaged leadership skills with the ability to drive positive organisational and cultural change management through the ability to effectively influence, motivate, administer and manage individuals and groups of stakeholders to achieve collective objectives.
  • High-level interpersonal, communication and media skills with a demonstrated ability to represent Council publicly and to build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, Councillors, community groups, and external stakeholders.
