Job summary

Carpentaria in Darwin is seeking a Casual Youth Worker to provide safe, trauma-informed support for young people aged 12–18. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and life skills, while maintaining a structured, nurturing home environment and meaningful family connections.

About Carpentaria

Purpose

You will provide safe, therapeutic and trauma-informed support to young people aged 12-18 years, promoting their emotional wellbeing, stability and development. It focuses on building trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviors, and responding effectively to crises and identified risks.

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team, the role supports young people to develop resilience, independence, life skills and meaningful connections with their families, peers and community. It also contributes to maintaining a safe, structured and nurturing home environment where young people feel respected, supported and empowered to achieve positive outcomes.

The ideal candidate
  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or the ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience working in residential care, youth services, or Out of Home Care programs
  • Genuine passion for supporting children and young people to live their best life using a person-centred approach
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation, care standards, and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with experience working in cross cultural contexts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and accurate reports and sound computer skills
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including both short and long shifts on weekdays, weekends, evenings, nights, sleepovers and public holidays
