Job summary

Blake Oliver Consulting seeks a Specialist, Testing (QA/Tester) to join a quality team supporting an Australian insurer's Consumer Lines Pricing platform. The role blends manual testing with Python-based automation, focusing on pricing rules, premiums and configuration accuracy in a live insurance product.

You will design and execute test cases, manage defects in Jira, and extend automation coverage with Bruno and API tests. Hybrid work in Sydney or Melbourne is available.

Qualifications

• Hands-on testing of pricing and rating functionality in Guidewire UI (PolicyCenter or equivalent).
• Experience with rate engines; Earnix experience preferred.
• Strong ability to write and execute manual test cases from requirements.
• Proficiency with Jira, Xray and Confluence for defect tracking and reporting.
• Exposure to backend API testing and a Python-based automation framework.

Responsibilities

Job description

Supporting a major Australian insurer on their Consumer Lines Pricing (CLP) platform, looking to engage a Specialist, Testing (QA/Tester) to join an established quality team focused on pricing rules, premiums, and configuration accuracy across a live insurance product.

This is a hands‑on role split roughly evenly between manual and automation testing. You'll carry a manual testing workload, designing and executing test cases, managing defects, and supporting releases, alongside running, debugging and extending the team's existing Python-based automation coverage. This isn't a framework-building or architecture role.

The role

• Manual test case design and execution across feature, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing, including managing the test data journey end-to-end for pricing and rating scenarios
• Testing pricing rules, premiums, and configuration changes for accuracy across scenarios, including rating functionality within the Guidewire UI
• Running and debugging existing automated test cases (backend API and frontend UI), and adding additional test cases to the existing Python-based framework using Bruno for API testing
• Performing maintenance on existing automated test cases
• Estimating test timeframes and communicating test data / environment requirements
• Raising and managing defects in Jira, with reporting via Xray and Confluence
• Contributing to the team's testing practices and knowledge sharing across the wider testing capability

What we're looking for

• Genuine domain exposure to insurance systems, ideally pricing or premium/rating systems. This is a mandatory requirement for this engagement, not just a preference
• Hands‑on experience testing pricing/rating functionality within the Guidewire UI (PolicyCenter or equivalent)
• Experience with a rate engine is required; direct experience with Earnix specifically is strongly preferred
• Strong experience writing and executing manual test cases from requirements and user stories.
• Proficient with Jira, Xray, and Confluence for defect logging, tracking, and reporting
• Hands‑on exposure to backend API testing, with a working API automation framework in Python and Bruno or Postman
• Comfortable running and contributing to an existing Python-based automation framework across API and UI, not expected to design or build a framework from the ground up
• Comfortable working in an Agile environment, collaborating on requirements delivered as user stories
• Good understanding of web technologies, including UI concepts, APIs, XML, and JSON
• Desirable: familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, GitHub)
