About the opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Tenements Officer within the Regulation and Compliance Division of the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM).

Responsibilities
  • Processing applications for new mining and exploration tenements, renewals, and variations in line with the Mining Act 1971 and associated regulations.
  • Preparing and issuing documentation such as leases, licences, maps, and instruments for tenement administration.
  • Maintaining accurate records in the Mining Register and departmental systems to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Providing advice and support to industry stakeholders, land owners, and the public on legislative requirements and tenure processes.
  • Conducting GIS analysis and assisting with spatial data queries to support tenement management.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and other government agencies to streamline processes and improve regulatory systems.
  • Contributing to policy and process improvements, ensuring best practice in tenement administration.

Key Selection Criteria
  • Experience in analysing, interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies or guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in database management systems and adaptability to new technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications

No formal qualifications required. Knowledge of South Australian mining legislation and GIS applications is desirable.

Remuneration

ASO4 salary range $76,561 – $80,256 per annum + superannuation

Full‑time role, working 37.5 hours per week
