Job summary

Operandi Consulting is seeking a Head of Business Technology for a Melbourne-based hybrid role. You will own end-to-end technology strategy for an essential services domain, partnering with executives to shape roadmaps and drive a significant program of change.

Qualifications

• Credible with OT, control systems, spatial and asset management platforms.
• Delivery pedigree on multi-million-dollar programs; understands reporting dynamics.

Head of Business Technology - Utilities & Infrastructure

Melbourne based hybrid role | Senior leadership

The opportunity:

Our client, a leading Australian infrastructure and essential services organisation, is looking for an experienced technology leader to take end-to-end ownership of the technology that supports one of its core business lines. This is a genuine senior leadership role. You’ll be the face of digital for your business area, partnering with executives to shape strategy and roadmap, steering a significant program of change, and making sure the platforms the business depends on run safely and reliably. The role covers strategy, delivery and run in one. It’s a role for someone who can step in and operate independently from day one.

What you’ll do:

• Act as the business partner for your area, translating business objectives into a clear technology strategy and roadmap
• Represent the business in project working groups and steering committees, and hold delivery teams to account for outcomes
• Direct limited investment to where it best reduces risk and adds value
• Own the lifecycle, service management and support of critical operational platforms
• Draw on specialist platform, data, security and architecture teams to deliver for your business area
• Lead and influence cross-functional teams, and communicate clearly with senior executives
• Partnering with Executives and senior leaders
• Partner with Digital, Procurement, Legal and enabling teams to secure the right expertise, shape decisions and deliver strong commercial and business outcomes
• Translate business objectives into a clear technology outcome, leading strategy and roadmap conversations and being accountable for ensuring projects are setup and remain on track to deliver the business outcomes and value

What you’ll bring:

• Senior experience in an asset-intensive or essential services environment, such as energy, mining, utilities or water
• A track record of owning operational and line-of-business technology platforms end to end
• Familiarity with technology such as operational technology, control systems, spatial and asset management platforms, and customer or billing systems. You don’t need to be a deep specialist, but you do need to be credible
• Delivery pedigree on multi-million-dollar programs. You’re not the project manager, but you know the right questions to ask when a status report doesn’t tell the whole story
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to prioritise in a budget-conscious environment
• A mature, articulate leadership style, with the drive and energy to get things done and the confidence to be left to run with it
