Job summary

Qualifications

• Proven experience in assembly, wiring, testing and commissioning of industrial automation or electrical systems.

• Work experience with control panels, drives, instrumentation and field devices.

Responsibilities

• Build, wire, and assemble control panels and field junction boxes according to drawings and diagrams.
• Produce wiring harnesses and device connections with neat cable routing and labeling.
• Terminate, crimp, solder and test industrial connectors and wiring harnesses.
• Install and route cables through equipment, trays, and conduits.
• Perform testing and commissioning: point-to-point checks, I/O validation and loop testing.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot wiring issues to ensure reliable system performance.
• Assemble, align, and install mechanical components and enclosures per drawings.
• Support prototype builds and production assemblies with adjustments and quality checks.

About the role

Join our Orebody Intelligence (OBI) team in Welshpool, WA, where we develop innovative technologies for the Mining and Exploration industry. As a Technician - Technology, you will assemble, wire, test, and commission industrial automation systems, working closely with engineers and technicians to deliver safe, high-quality solutions. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and contributing to cutting-edge technology from prototype to production.

What you will be doing

• Build, wire, and assemble control panels and field junction boxes, ensuring all components are installed and configured according to technical drawings, cable diagrams, and industry standards.
• Produce high-quality wiring harnesses and device connections, maintaining neat cable routing, labelling, strain relief, and documentation to support safe and reliable system operation.
• Terminate, crimp, solder, and test industrial connectors and wiring harnesses, ensuring high-quality workmanship and minimal rework.
• Install and route cables through equipment, cable trays, and conduits while maintaining compliance with bend radius, EMC segregation, and cable protection standards.
• Perform testing and commissioning activities, including point-to-point checks, I/O validation, loop testing, instrument setup, and functional system testing.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot wiring issues and intermittent faults using a range of electrical test equipment to ensure reliable system performance.
• Assemble, align, and install mechanical components, enclosures, brackets, and hardware according to engineering drawings, ensuring correct fit, function, and compliance with specifications.
• Support prototype builds and production assemblies by performing adjustments, rework, and quality checks, while providing practical feedback to improve design, assembly efficiency, and serviceability.
• Interpret and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and build documentation accurately, maintaining detailed records of as-built changes, test results, and project documentation.
• Ensure build quality and compliance by following work instructions, maintaining accurate component and serial records, identifying issues early, and recommending process and product improvements.
• Maintain a strong safety-first culture by following risk controls, using PPE and safe work practices, reporting hazards promptly, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
• Contribute to a safe and efficient workplace by maintaining good housekeeping, handling materials safely, participating in toolbox talks and safety initiatives, and ensuring work areas remain organized and hazard-free.

What you will bring

• Trade qualification in Electrotechnology, Electrical Fitting, Electronics, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
• Proven experience in the assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of industrial automation or electrical systems.
• Ability to accurately interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical assembly drawings.
• Experience working with control panels, drives, instrumentation, industrial sensors, and field devices.
• Strong attention to detail, with a focus on quality workmanship, safety, and compliance.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Valid Class C Driver's Licence (essential); Forklift Licence highly regarded.
• Authorised to work in Australia.
