Job summary

Cummins Asia Pacific is seeking an experienced Technician – Mechanical to join our Perth workshop. You will deliver high‑quality service, perform repairs and maintenance on heavy diesel products, and diagnose engine issues while following safety and quality procedures.

Ideal candidates have heavy diesel experience, engine rebuild capabilities, and a collaborative, safety‑minded approach. This on‑site role includes training opportunities and ongoing career development within a global leader.

Qualifications

  • Possess WA driver’s licence and Australian rights to work.
  • Qualified Heavy Diesel/Plant mechanic with relevant certification.
  • Experience servicing and maintaining heavy diesel engines/products.
  • Engine rebuild/reconditioning experience preferred.
  • Safety‑focused with ability to work in a team.
  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician is preferred.
  • Diploma from technical institution is advantageous.
  • Local driving permit preferred; export controls licensing may be required.

Responsibilities

Technician – Mechanical

We are seeking experienced Technician – Mechanical to join our dynamic workshop team based in Perth.

Description
  • Deliver first‑class service to customers
  • Complete repairs and maintenance of heavy diesel products
  • Diagnose and repair Cummins engines
  • Engine rebuilding and reconditioning
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and report any issues or incidents to the supervisor
  • Complete required documentation such as service worksheets, warranty claims, quality forms or business system input screens
Education, Licenses & Certifications
  • WA driver’s licence
  • Australian working rights
  • Mechanical trades qualified as Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Light vehicle mechanic or plant mechanic (light/heavy/engine reconditioning)
  • Experience as a technician in the service and maintenance of heavy diesel products
  • Ideally possess engine repair, rebuild or reconditioning experience
  • Safety‑focused and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)
  • Vocational diploma from a relevant technical institution
  • Locally valid driving permit (Preferred)
  • Additional licensing may be required for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations

  • Electrical knowledge – demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards on working with low and/or high voltage by complying with all safe work procedures including PPE to create a safe work environment; applies basic electrical theories and electronics components knowledge using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently
  • Electronic service tool application – identifies the suite of available hardware and software tools required for a service event; utilises the appropriate electronic tool set to maintain the product or diagnose and troubleshoot an issue; interprets electronic tool results or recommendations to determine next steps for service resolution
  • Mechanical knowledge – demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards by complying with all safe work procedures including PPE to create a safe work environment; applies mechanical principles and theories using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently
  • Product repair and maintenance – repairs and maintains mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools within standard repair time to ensure a quality repair; disassembles and assembles engines or power generators following guidelines; inspects and replaces parts and components following re‑use guidelines to minimise customers cost of ownership; performs progressive damage check following guidelines to restore to pre‑failure condition
  • Service documentation – creates and verifies customer, equipment and technical information; captures specific data using required service tools; follows procedures and documents required information in the service management system to have an accurate record of the work done
  • Technical escalation – obtains product technical issue information and utilises available resources including data management tools; elevates issues to a higher level of expertise, balancing timeliness of customer response with investigation efforts; captures all troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database to ensure seamless transitions and accurate response to ticket resolution in a timely manner
  • Values differences – recognising the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organisation
Experience
  • Minimal level of workshop experience required
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products
  • Experience in engine rebuilding and reconditioning
  • Experience in ensuring adherence to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies and reporting incidents to the supervisor
  • Experience in completing required documentation such as service worksheets, warranty claims, quality forms or business system input screens
