Job summary

Burnie Arts is seeking a hands-on Technician to support live events across our Cultural Precinct. You will set up and operate lighting, audio, AV and staging gear, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safe, smooth performances from load-in to pack-down.

Ideal candidates have experience in arts venues, operate lighting/sound consoles, and enjoy technical production. Flexibility around event schedules is required. A National Police Check will be part of the process.

Qualifications

  • Experience in arts/entertainment venues is preferred.
  • Experience operating lighting and sound consoles required.
  • Aptitude and interest in technical production and performing arts.
  • Knowledge of rigging requirements is desirable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot AV issues and find practical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate lighting, audio, AV and staging equipment.
  • Engineer sound and prepare basic lighting rigs.
  • Support theatre and entertainment productions.
  • Set up and pack down equipment for events and performances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve audio, visual and lighting issues.
  • Prepare venues to meet technical and production requirements.
  • Work with clients and event teams to deliver technical requirements.
  • Conduct pre-show technical briefings with Front-of-House teams.
  • Maintain, clean and store technical equipment.
  • Support venue security and staff safety.
  • Contribute to safe work procedures and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with the technical team to achieve great production outcomes.

Do you know your way around a lighting rig, sound desk or AV system? Do you love the challenge of making sure everything works when the curtain goes up?

Burnie Arts is looking for a Technician to join our team and help deliver high-quality technical and production services across our vibrant Cultural Precinct.

From setting up sound and lighting to troubleshooting AV issues and supporting live events, this is a hands-on role where no two days are quite the same.

What you will be doing

You will play an important role in making sure events, performances and functions run safely and smoothly. Your work will include:

  • Setting up and operating lighting, audio, audio-visual and staging equipment.
  • Engineering sound and preparing basic lighting rigs.
  • Supporting theatre and entertainment productions.
  • Setting up and packing down equipment for events and performances.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving audio, visual and lighting issues.
  • Preparing venues to meet technical and production requirements.
  • Working with clients and event teams to deliver their technical requirements.
  • Conducting pre-show technical briefings with Front-of-House teams.
  • Maintaining, cleaning and safely storing technical equipment.
  • Supporting venue security and the safety of staff and patrons.
  • Contributing to the development and review of safe work procedures and technical documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with the technical team to achieve great production outcomes.
About you

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, creative, adaptable and calm under pressure.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within an arts, entertainment or cultural venue.
  • Experience operating lighting and sound consoles.
  • An aptitude and genuine interest in technical production and the performing arts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rigging requirements.
  • The ability to troubleshoot AV issues and find practical solutions.
  • The ability to operate fly tower, rigging and theatre lighting safely.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • A current Dogman and/or Riggers Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours around the events schedule.

Qualifications in Performing Arts, Live Production or a related field will be highly regarded, as will Elevated Work Platform, First Aid and Test and Tag competencies.
