Job summary

Downer Rail & Transit Systems seeks a Technical Trainer to develop, deliver and evaluate technical training at the Auburn Maintenance Centre. You will orient new staff and ensure they have the knowledge to undertake projects, including overhauls and testing of fleets.

You will analyse training needs, source or create courses, and deliver assessments to maintain high standards. Experience in mechanical/electrical trades and rolling stock is valued, with a teaching qualification (TAE 40116) or

Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical streams.
• Experience in a multi-disciplined technical environment.
• Experience with rolling stock would be highly desirable.
• Teaching qualification to TAE 40116 or willingness to achieve.
• Knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of VET Quality Framework would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting & investigations.

Downer Rail and Transit Systems Business Unit has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Trainer to join our team.

Our Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) business provides a range of end to end, innovative transport solutions including:

• Rolling Stock Design, manufacture and maintenance
• Rolling Stock system engineering and integration
• Through Life Support engineering and maintenance services

As the technical trainer you will play a key role in our Rail & Transit Systems business at Auburn Maintenance Centre. Developing, delivering and evaluating technical training for current and upcoming projects in our Auburn Maintenance Centre facility. The role will be responsible for the orientation of new staff so that they have the knowledge and skills to undertake projects (e.g. overhauls, upgrades, testing and maintenance of fleets) under Downer's contractual obligations. You will assist in conducting training needs analysis, developing courses or sourcing appropriate external solutions, delivering training, assessing competence and administering courses/assessments.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Relevant trade qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical streams
• Experience working in a multi-disciplined technical environment
• Experience with rolling stock would be highly desirable
• Teaching qualification to TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent. Or the willingness to achieve
• Knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
• Knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Quality Framework would be an advantage
• Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting and investigations.

In this role you will have:

• Minimum of 5 years in a relevant trade, rail industry experience highly regarded
• Demonstrated experience driving and shunting desirable
• Demonstrated experience creating, developing and delivering training,
• Makes effective and timely decisions in difficult or ambiguous situations
• Understands and complies with basic HR regulations and laws
