Job summary

The University of Technology Sydney invites applications for a Technical Systems and Operations Coordinator to oversee core laboratory information management systems and governance across the Faculty of Science.

As part of the Technical Operations and Infrastructure Team, you will drive system improvements, coordinate cross-unit projects with Property, and ensure efficient, compliant operations in laboratories.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Identify system gaps, ensure workflow compliance, manage software updates with vendors.
  • Coordinate infrastructure projects across the faculty with regular project-impact updates.
  • Manage day-to-day lab operations, equipment maintenance, alarms, and SOPs.
  • Oversee admin tasks such as security access and fleet records.
  • Support the Technical Services Manager with HR tasks and staff development.

About the Team The Faculty of Science’s organizational structure consists of two schools, two research institutes, professional services, and Technical Services. Technical Services provides technical expertise and support for the teaching and research endeavors of the faculty. It is comprised of a scientific discipline-based team that is responsible for running undergraduate practical classes, as well as providing technical support and subject matter expertise to research academics and students. The position plays a key role in providing the day-to-day coordination of systems, governance and facilities to ensure the smooth operations of the laboratories and provide centralized maintenance and centralized professional support for Technical Services.

Detailed Description About the Role The Technical Systems and Operations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the operation of core laboratory information management systems and governance requirements and faculty wide infrastructure projects for the Faculty of Science. As part of the Technical Operations and Infrastructure Team, Technical Services, the incumbent will work closely with all members of the faculty to deliver standardised operation of systems, governance and facilities within Technical Services, improving efficiency, compliance and user experience. If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying system gaps, ensuring compliance in workflows, managing software updates with vendors, and driving continuous system improvements.
  • Coordinating infrastructure projects across the faculty in collaboration with the Property Unit, including regular communication about project impacts.
  • Managing day-to-day lab operations, including equipment maintenance, alarm systems, and development of SOPs and risk assessments.
  • Overseeing administrative tasks such as security access, vehicle fleet records, and ensures correct usage of systems across the faculty.
  • Supporting the Technical Services Manager with HR-related tasks, manages staff performance, and promotes professional development within the team.

  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team including the ability to respond to changing circumstances and critical situations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems.

Remuneration/Salary Remuneration & Benefits Base Salary Range: $105,814 to $117,057 pa (HEW 7)

  • This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time, and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
