Technical Supervisor - Workshop & Field Operations

This role is ideal for an experienced tradesperson or supervisor who enjoys coordinating people, maintaining an organised workshop and ensuring equipment and resources are ready to support field operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Area Supervisor / Supervisor, you will take responsibility for the daily operation of the workshop and technician workforce. A key focus is ensuring the workshop, specialist equipment, tooling and technicians are organised, maintained and ready for upcoming work. You will coordinate daily priorities, technician allocation, equipment movements, maintenance and job preparation while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and housekeeping. You will also support field activities and provide on-site supervision or technical assistance when operationally required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day workshop and technician workforce, including work allocation, attendance, daily priorities, performance and technician support.
- Maintain workshop and specialist equipment readiness, including housekeeping, stores, consumables, tooling, calibration, planned maintenance and repairs.
- Coordinate job preparation and mobilisation, ensuring competent personnel, equipment, tooling, consumables, work packs, permits and safety documentation are ready when required.
- Drive safe and efficient workshop operations, including toolbox activities, QHSE requirements, equipment compliance, accurate job records, timesheets and operational reporting.
- Support field execution when required, including technical service work and field supervision, while escalating customer, scope, technical or commercial matters to the Area Supervisor.
Skills & Experience
- We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical and workshop background who is comfortable supervising technicians and managing competing operational priorities. Experience in a heavy industrial workshop, mechanical maintenance or specialist field service environment such as Oil & Gas, Mining, Pipelines, Refining, Power Generation or Heavy Manufacturing will be highly regarded.
- Relevant mechanical trade qualification such as Fitter & Turner, Fitter Machinist or equivalent.
- Previous experience supervising technicians, tradespeople or workshop activities.
- Good knowledge of workshop practices, mechanical equipment, maintenance and calibration.
- Strong planning, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to support field work, travel and reasonable overtime when required.
- Experience with specialist mechanical equipment or services such as Controlled Bolting, On-Site Machining, Hot Tapping, Line Stopping or Valve Services would be advantageous. Forklift, Senior First Aid and other relevant industrial or high‑risk work tickets would also be highly regarded.
